- 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup whole milk, warmed
- 3 large eggs
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 3 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled and chopped
- ½ cup brown sugar
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm milk, active dry yeast, and granulated sugar; let sit until frothy (about 5 minutes).
- In another bowl, whisk together flour and salt; add melted butter, eggs, and yeast mixture to form a soft dough.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap or a damp towel, and let rise until doubled (about 1 hour).
- While dough rises, mix chopped apples with brown sugar and cinnamon in a bowl.
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle; spread softened butter over it followed by the apple filling. Roll tightly into a log.
- Slice the log lengthwise to reveal layers; braid the two halves together.
- Place in a greased loaf pan, cover again, and let rise for another 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
